THE STORY OF LIZZIE CURIOUS LIZARD

I am not sure why a little tiny baby Florida lizard would pick my screened in deck to begin her training of life. But I am so glad Lizzie did.

Yes, Lizzie is the name that just popped out of my brain. Yesterday after returning from Cocoa Beach and sitting down in my plastic but favorite deck chair. Ok, there are only two chairs, but mine seems to be the more comfy. After preparing to enjoy the trees, birds, turtles and sky view, I notices a tiny speck on the screen. Then the speck moved!! The tiniest baby lizard began to scurry up the screen seeming to be unsure how to deal with the giant intruder. Me.

So ,as I began to appreciate having a new friend, at least I hope Lizzie would view me as a friend in the near future, I sat back and watched her explore the Universe I call my deck.

Then I recalled that there was  a banana  in the kitchen that I had no plans of eating. The banana was an unexpected offering from some one. I was not sure what I would do with this until now. I told myself " I bet Lizzie would give it a go."  And so she did.

She has also chosen one of my plants , which sits close to the screen, as her city of refuge.

I look forward to Lizzie's , as well as my own, new discovers.

TAKE FIVE

I grew up in Hollywood California. I recall loving to watch what goes on in the back of the camera. And the work that it took to film one scene could take up to 5 days. The best part is when I would here the director order everyone on the set to take five. I assumed he meant minutes.

So what does one do in 5 minutes? Sit and relax. Back in those days most people smoked. So I guess that is what a lot of folks did. A five minute cigarette break.

But now I can see I assumed the order take five was referring to minutes. Which brings me to the contemplation I had this morning. So this is how I broke it down.

What can one do in:

5 seconds- Smile and see how many others will smile back

5 minutes- Make a list of people you want to help today

5 hours- Help all those people on your list

5 days- become new friends with 10 people

5 weeks- 100 random acts of kindness

5 years- accomplished 5 life goals

As you might notice  I put attention on other people. Life feels so light when I care for others.

Also if you would like to learn how to really and powerful control your attention, just ask me and I would be happy to share with you about the Avatar Course.

THE MAMA DUCK AND THE TREE TRIMMER

Yesterday I had the privilege of witnessing a random act of kindness. We received a notice that our 3 flights of stairs facing the lake side of my building was going to be repaired. Come to find out not only repaired but first they will be demolished.

You see they had a crack in the second landing making them very dangerous to use. So I hardly ever used them. But once and a while would tip toe down them to enjoy the lake scenery as I descended.

I love to see the birds , turtles and squirrels that reside on the lake side of my building. You would never know that just on the other side was the parking lot. I enjoy , so very much ,the peace one can find here on the lake side.

And just a couple of weeks ago I had the most awesome time sharing some of the wild life that have come to live here with my two animal loving Grand Girls.

One of the mornings they had been waiting for the adults to ready themselves for the days next adventure when they asked if they could go feed the ducks. And only being gone for just a few minutes I could here them squeal with excitement as they entered the breezeway below.

Apparently they met the mama duck while she laying on her eggs . She had set up her nest  between  the building next door and the lake . Well she also decided to asked the girls to leave with a chase and some mama duck words I cannot repeat. Mama duck is a good mama and makes sure that no harm comes to her soon to hatch baby ducklings.

Since my Grand Girls have left I have kept them up to date with the Mama Duck and her precious oval jewels by sending pictures via text to my Daughter's cell phone.

So then yesterday when the construction workers began I could see how they were going to repair the cement stair case. Found out with a great huge smashing of hammers and saws and yelling different instructions to each other. I became concerned about mama duck feeling threatened and scared by all the commotion.

I check in on her and she seemed to stick to her duties and stay right there on her family. Cool.

But then of all things the hired tree trimmers drove a tree trimming monster machine very close to mama duck's nest. I calmly panicked and rain down to find one of the tree trimmers on the bucket 3 stories high. Hard hat on his head and a scarf over his mouth for his protection.

So now what about the mama duck's protection. I kept my focus on the tree trimmer and in a few seconds he turned and looked at me . I started waving and pointing to the direction of the mama duck. Asked if he knew they were there. I smiled and my heart jumped with joy when he gave me  the two thumb signal and waved back to let me know not to worry.

Wow, I was so happy . I have always believe that there are more wonderful people on this planet then not. And the more I believe this the more that will show up.

After the trimmers began piling up the branches and leaves to place into their shredder I decided to walk over to the mama duck to find her walking around a right orange construction cone that the trimmers had thoughtful placed on mama ducks eggs . I had brought with me morsels of bread to offer her some comfort food. I lifted the cone to set it aside and told her that everything was all right.

About 10 minutes later I could lean over my deck and see her sitting, once again, proudly on her clutch. I bet she was thinking " boy what a day" .

Today , once again , peace has blanketed our lake side of the building. As though all of the commotion of yesterday was barely a blink of an eye in the experiences of life.

Thank you mama duck. Thank you tree trimmers. And thank you construction workers for starting to make our stairs by the lake side of our building safe and soon to be more commonly used.

Be The Change: WHO SAID ?!?!?

Be The Change: WHO SAID ?!?!?: I recall back when I was growing up. OK, I am still growing up. I should start out with back when I was very young. Oops, very young. D...

WHO SAID ?!?!?

I recall back when I was growing up. OK, I am still growing up. I should start out with back when I was very young. Oops, very young. Depends on how you look at it. Shall I say back when I was 12 ish, I was told that it was a sin to eat meat on Friday's. At this age I was old enough to pack my own lunch.

So I started my practice of camouflaging my sandwich so no one could tell I had smuggled my bologna sandwich on just about every Friday at St. Finbar's Catholic School. I felt I had a good reason not to ignore the no meat rule. The smell of tuna after 4 hours in my lunch pail would gag anyone.

But one day while I arrived at school just hopping of the city bus, I heard the news.

As of today it is no longer a sin to eat meat on Friday. I stopped dead in my tracks.

What!!! Does this mean all of those Fridays while I munched on my bologna sandwich, smothered in mayonnaise and surrounded by white bread , sinning with every bite was  now null and void? Everything is cool now? I can go ahead and eat my once was a smuggled in contraband into the school yard lunch.? No more a sin?

This was , I believe , my first awakening. The moment of a huge realization  But was proceeded by a huge question. Who is making up these rules any way? Who said? Who said it was a sin last week to eat the evil bologna  in the first place? Frankly , as I look back on this choice of lunch I am surprised that  I am as healthy as I am today. No offense  Oscar.

This is when I began my journey of self discover. I was not living my life just in resistance to the worlds rules any longer. Well not as much . But at that moment  I realized I can make my own rules. Look out world. The who said was changing to me said.

I can decide whether or not it is all right to eat meat on Friday. Whether I  am old or young. How I feel at any moment. It is a wake up call . OK, so if I am deciding and things do not go as I thought they might, this also meant I am the ONE.  Yes indeed .

I am.

I am happy to be me.

Period.

Thanks Ya'll

OOPS. Living in the south.
ALOHA

I decide.
